The Young i Professionals are an international group of technology professionals that represent all “young” entrants into the job market or “young” users of IBM i, iSeries, System i, and AS/400.

The Young i Professionals group was first formed several years ago at COMMON to give young people a way to find each other and network with each other.  Over the years, the names have changed but the end goal has been the same:  bring more professionals to the platform and extend networking resources to those currently on the platform.  As anyone currently using i already knows, we are a community and together will help lead the platform to new heights through education, advocacy and involvement.

Why the Young i Professionals?

Who better to help new users get acquainted with the platform and plethora of options available on the platform than those who only recently learned?  While already simple due to the nature of the system, we want to help make the process of learning the both basic and advanced topics of IBM i administration, development and management a little more accessible.  By teaming new users with the IBM Power Systems Academic Initiative as well as seasoned experts in each field of IBM i operations, we think we’ve done just that.

This site and all of it's contents are hosted on an Power System 570 running IBM i 6.1 .  We would like to send a special thank you to the IBM Academic Initiative for providing us with this system and helping make it possible for us to practice what we preach.

The Young i Professionals began as a group within the COMMON Users Group.  While our efforts have now expanded to include projects and events outside of the COMMON membership, we still actively participate in COMMON and want to thank COMMON's membership, staff, committees, and board members for their encouragement and assistance.
